About the event
The "Children's Paper Orchestra" is a workshop in which children explore the sound of paper in all its facets and possibilities through an orchestral paper-music work. An eventful week is offered with team building, creative co-creation, movement experiences and the discovery of new musical territory.
The artists and art educators Sofia Nordmann and Sabine Hilscher are in charge of the project, which is being carried out in cooperation with the youth art school Fri-X in Kreuzberg. About 20 children can participate in the workshop sessions, which will take place from 19 to 23 June.
During the project week, the children will first design and build instruments out of paper. Research-based learning is the focus here. The familiar material paper will be explored, creatively processed and reinterpreted. Sounds can be created through percussion objects, sound bodies, reconstructed instruments or through rhythmic tearing, folding, crumpling and hitting.
Afterwards, the children will work on the rhythmic and musical accompaniment of a piece they have composed themselves and together they will make an extraordinary paper orchestra come true.
At the end of the project, a performance will take place on 13 July in the atrium of the Willy Brandt Haus.
