Finja Sander

The constant, unflinching work and research on the concept of performance forms the core of Finja Sander's work. She searches for breaks and ambivalences in everyday life, for unnoticed automatisms that she picks out, isolates and transfers into new contexts within multi-part processes.

Her own body is the impulse generator, catalyst, a kind of seismograph. Strategies of staging and exaggerating gestures deepen and consolidate Sander's performative theses. These develop into, among other things, expansive, space-specific sculptures and installations.

Her interest in original materials, rugged, resistant textures and religiously connoted images/rituals opens up a further spectrum of different, cultural-historical narratives and traditions, which are still mostly expressed subliminally today and still unconsciously guide our everyday actions and thoughts.
